When America elected a then-reality television star, we probably didn’t think we’d see another entertainer in the White House. But that changed when Linda McMahon was nominated and currently serves as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration in the Trump administration. Before her stint in politics, McMahon was an active member of the WWE for 29 years, serving as its president and CEO, and creating civic programs for the company.
Though she ran and was defeated in the 2009 election for the U.S. Senate to represent Connecticut, as well as the 2012 race for the same seat, she eventually went on to become part of politics, and was confirmed by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship in an 18–1 vote, and in the full Senate by a vote of 81–19.
But who is Linda McMahon’s husband? Fans of the WWE know him pretty well already. So, here are seven things to know about Vince McMahon.
1. They met when he was 16.
Linda, then known as Linda Edwards, met Vince when she was 13 and he was 16. His mother became good friends with her family, and Vince lived in their family home as he was subjected to multiple abusive stepfathers.
2. They’ve been married 52 years.
After graduating high school, he asked Linda to marry him, and they wed in 1966 when she was 17 years old and he was 20.
3. They have two children.
The couple are parents to two children: Shane and Stephanie. They also have six grandchildren: Aurora Rose, Murphy Claire, Vaughn Evelyn, Declan James, Kenyon Jesse, and Rogan Henry.
4. His father created the WWE.
His father, Vince McMahon Sr., ran the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which was renamed the World Wrestling Federation. He was also a wrestling promoter, and named his son as his successor.
5. He’s a famous wrestler.
Though he originally aspired to follow another profession, and worked as a traveling cup salesman, he eventually took over the WWE from his father. He’s currently the majority owner, chairman and CEO of the WWE, and founded Alpha Entertainment, the holding company of the American football league the XFL.
Vince has also been an announcer and performed as his ring name, Mr. McMahon. He’s a two-time world champion and competed in numerous pay-per-view events in the late 90s/early 2000s.
6. In fact, wrestling is pretty much what their family is known for.
When you take a look at the McMahon family, it seems like wrestling is in their DNA. Jess McMahon, Vince’s grandfather, started promoting wrestling shows in 1915.
But aside from Vince being a wrestler, both of his children are involved in the sport. His son Shane is the chairman and principal executive officer of Seven Stars Cloud Group, Inc, and a minority owner of WWE. His daughter Stephanie is married to Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H. Stephanie is the Chief Brand Officer of WWE as well as a WWE board member, while her husband is a wrestler and is the Executive Vice President of Talent, Creative & Live Events.
7. He’s admitted to cheating on his wife.
In 2001, he told Playboy that he had cheated on Linda multiple times while cameras weren’t rolling. He did, however, say he told his wife every time he did. And he apparently doesn’t cheat anymore:
“I probably lied to myself, thinking she knew who I was when we got married. The wild guy. But I never, ever threw anything in her face. I was discreet. And Linda never suffered from a lack of attention, physical or emotional. But one day she asked me, point-blank, ‘Are you having an affair with so-and-so?’ And I’ve never lied to her… It crushed her. Then she asked, ‘What about such and such?’”… Having an affair, running off here and there, can take a lot of energy. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of time. The last five or six years, I’ve found that I not only appreciate my wife more, but I can get a hell of a lot more done.”
