We’ve all been in the kind of situation where someone asks you how you’ve been and all you can say is, “It’s been a rough couple of months.” Life is hard for everyone at times, and no matter how much you try to explain, no one else can truly relate to your situation if they’ve never experienced it themselves.
And when a rough patch has turned into what feels like a rough life, it can be hard to see anything as falling on the bright side.
Your mood turns super negative and your brain starts overthinking EVERYTHING. You feel like no one says hello to you at work and you must be invisible. And of course, you left your keys at home because you can’t keep track of anything.
No wonder even your closest friends don’t want to hang out with you, you think to yourself. You’re a mess.
Obviously, these feelings are exaggerated, but when you’re already feeling down, even the littlest things can set you off or make you cry.
Trust me, I have been there.
Those are the days when you want to crawl back into bed and stay there for a month, and when you realize that’s not possible and you’ll just have to tough it out like always, that just brings your mood down even more.
These are the times when it feels like life you just can’t catch a break and you constantly wonder why life has to be so hard?
It feels like everyone and everything is against you, like it wouldn’t matter if you disappeared because no one seems to have any sympathy for you.
All these thoughts can make you emotional. At least, I know they make me really emotional. And no matter how many times someone tells me to cheer up or get over it, it still feels like life is pulling the rug out from underneath me.
If you’re thinking, “I can relate, sister,” then you know I don’t have to keep describing this feeling.
Just try to remember that even though not everyone understands your struggle or how you’re feeling when you’re lower than low, they do want to help you feel better, and their suggestions come from the heart.
Most of the time, when people tell you to try meditation or a hobby to get your mind off of things, it’s usually because that’s what helped when they were the one feeling as though the world was out to get them.
So no, you don’t have to necessarily take their advice — especially if you already know that deep breathing doesn’t help you in particular — but it’s good to remind yourself that the world really isn’t against you and that while life may be hard right now, it isn’t purposefully bringing you down.
That’s not to say that getting emotional, or even reading emotional quotes that are totally relatable, doesn’t help, but don’t let yourself wallow for too long.
Take Ariana Grande’s advice and keep your chin up because we’re gonna be alright.
In the meantime, here are some relatable quotes when it feels like life is way too hard and just keeps bringing you down, because if one things for certain, we’ve ALL been there.
